Resident Evil 4 (2023)
Rack the Red9's shells in by hand, parry with the knife and throw it into a Ganado's back.
The catch: Foliage can flicker or show in one eye, a rendering issue the creator can't fix.

Launch Kit
Get Resident Evil 4 (2023) running
Steps are general until you ; then the runtime step matches your headset.
-
Set your VR runtime
Pick your OpenXR runtime: the Meta Horizon Link app for Link or Air Link, Virtual Desktop's VDXR for Virtual Desktop, or SteamVR for Index, Beyond and Pico. The creator supports SteamVR too; if a later step says "start SteamVR or your VR runtime", this runtime is enough and you can skip SteamVR.
General step from us -
Install Resident Evil 4 (2023) (Steam)
Install it and launch it once in flat mode to finish first-time setup, then quit.

Have these ready
Resident Evil 4 Remake on Steam · OpenVR (SteamVR) or OpenXR, picked in the installer · Steam or Meta headset (per-controller offsets); Steam Frame controllers supported since 2.1.4 · Steam Input disabled for RE4 · ViGEm Bus Driver no longer needed since 2.1.5

Creator step 1
Back up any other RE4 mods: the installer removes every leftover of a previous REFramework install, and other mods go with it.
From the creator's guide -
Creator step 2
Download the installer from re4vr.com and run it. It finds your RE4 folder, asks OpenVR or OpenXR and Steam or Meta, and installs the newest version; just click Next.
From the creator's guide -
Creator step 3
In Steam, right-click RE4, then Properties, Controller, and set Steam Input to Disabled.
From the creator's guide -
Creator step 4
In the game's own options, turn off FidelityFX and Screen Space Reflections, or turn on Disable Toxic Gamesettings in the mod menu to do it for you.
From the creator's guide -
Creator step 5
Start the game. LT plus the left B (Y) button opens the mod menu; pick SteamVR or MetaVR there so your hands sit right.
From the creator's guide -
Creator step 6
Under Rendering, keep Single Frame Multipass (AFW is faster but beta). On OpenXR, Resolution Scale starts at 0.5: raise it until it stutters and press Set.

First launch in VR

Stuck?

AFW rendering is beta and can crash; Single Frame Multipass is the safe choice
Reported on the creator's page or the linked sources. Known issue
The map, gondolas and some minor details don't render properly, and characters float oddly in descending elevators
Reported on the creator's page or the linked sources. Known issue
In the Chapter 6 gondola as Ada, VR control is paused and you are invincible until you get off
Reported on the creator's page or the linked sources. Known issue
Controllers tracked but buttons dead means Steam Input is still on
Reported on the creator's page or the linked sources. Known issue
To uninstall, run unins000.exe (the one with the mod's logo) in the RE4 folder

Black screen in the headset
This mod uses OpenXR. Check the active OpenXR runtime matches how you connect (the Set your VR runtime step), then start Link or Virtual Desktop before the game. General tip from us
Controllers don't show up
Start Link, Virtual Desktop or SteamVR before the game, and make sure the controllers are awake before launch. General tip from us
Stutter or low frame rate
Lower the in-game resolution or render scale first, then shadows and volumetrics. Close overlays you don't need. General tip from us
The mod didn't load at all
Recheck the game version against the creator's page; a game update is the most common cause. Then reinstall the mod files. General tip from us
