BB-tierRDRVR by Disonomouss

Draw, spin and holster John Marston's guns with your hands in true stereo.

The catch: Needs a third-party hook (RedHook) and has only been hardware-tested on one headset.

Get Red Dead Redemption running

Steps are general until you ; then the runtime step matches your headset.

  1. Set your VR runtime

Pick your OpenXR runtime: the Meta Horizon Link app for Link or Air Link, Virtual Desktop's VDXR for Virtual Desktop, or SteamVR for Index, Beyond and Pico. The creator supports SteamVR too; if a later step says "start SteamVR or your VR runtime", this runtime is enough and you can skip SteamVR.

  2. Install Red Dead Redemption (Steam)

Install it and launch it once in flat mode to finish first-time setup, then quit. The creator says it needs Made on one build of RDR.exe; on other builds it scans for game code and stands down (plays flat) if it cannot find everything.

  3. Have these ready

Red Dead Redemption (2024 PC port) · RedHook v0.8 by K3rhos (not included) · OpenXR runtime set active (SteamVR, Quest Link, Virtual Desktop, WMR) · Windows 10/11 and a DirectX 12 GPU with headroom

    From the creator's guide
  4. Creator step 1

Install RedHook into the game folder and set Disabled=true under [DirectXHook] in RedHook.ini

  5. Creator step 2

Download the RDRVR zip from GitHub releases and unzip it

  6. Creator step 3

Run Install.cmd (it finds the game via Steam and backs up replaced files)

  7. Creator step 4

Start your headset runtime, then the game

  8. First launch in VR

Put the headset on, then start Red Dead Redemption the way the creator's guide says. Calibrate your height in the first area.

Black screen in the headset

This mod uses OpenXR. Check the active OpenXR runtime matches how you connect (the Set your VR runtime step), then start Link or Virtual Desktop before the game. General tip from us

Controllers don't show up

Start Link, Virtual Desktop or SteamVR before the game, and make sure the controllers are awake before launch. General tip from us

Stutter or low frame rate

Lower the in-game resolution or render scale first, then shadows and volumetrics. Close overlays you don't need. General tip from us

The mod didn't load at all

Recheck the game version against the creator's page; a game update is the most common cause. Then reinstall the mod files. General tip from us
